Commended for his immeasurable talent and merit, it took Gukesh about 11 years to get to the zenith. And though the years may indicate rookie numbers, his one track mind has always been in the big leagues. Bursting into the scene as a breakthrough talent, he showcased a unique combination of skill, strategy, and composure that often belied his age.
To use the term ‘trending’ would be to discredit his long and arduous journey. Having recently ascended to the position of India’s top-ranked chess player, surpassing even Viswanathan Anand in September 2023, his name has gained quite a significant online prominence. When asked about himself, Gukesh has always been a picture of humbleness. After his grand win, the words he had to say were, “I was dreaming this moment for the last 10 years. I am happy that I realised the dream (and made it) into reality,” He further added, “I got a bit emotional because I was not expecting to win. But then I got a chance to press on.”
Gukesh D has been recently felicitated by the Tamil Nadu government. With chief minister M.K. Stalin vouching for the young champion, he received high praise as underlined in the CM’s speech “From starting as a seven-year-old to becoming the World champion, it took him just 11 years. So I want the youngsters of this state to look at Gukesh’s hard work, dedication, and single-minded focus on the task and take inspiration from him.”
