Importance of an OTT release

In the realm of cinema, the effectiveness of storytelling is largely dependent on the talents behind and in front of the camera. For Sookshmadarshini, the cast and crew are an exemplary combination of seasoned professionals and rising stars, which lends an exciting dynamic to the film. For playing the shrewd and cunning Manuel, Basil Joseph’s casting has been greatly appreciated.

Unlike conventional theatrical releases, which can be limited by geographical and logistical factors, streaming services provide a global stage accessible to anyone with an internet connection. This democratization of content consumption ensures that niche genres, such as black comedy thrillers, can find their audience regardless of location.

OTT platforms empower filmmakers to explore unconventional narratives and sensitive storytelling that might not receive backing in traditional cinemas. The platform offers a unique lifeline for creators, allowing them to experiment with genres that challenge societal norms and explore complex themes.

From the director

In an interview with OTTplay, director M.C. Jithin was able to express his desire in a different kind of world building with Sookshmadarshini: “The idea was to shoot on a housing colony like the one we saw in films like Gandhinagar 2nd Street and Thalayana Manthram – a typical Sathyan Anthikad world. My idea was to create a Hitchcockian mystery thriller film set in such a world, among that kind of characters.”

“Another thought was to create a female detective character in Malayalam cinema. Even though I was actively thinking about making the character a police officer or a doctor or some other kind of investigator, I was sure that the production banners might ask for a ‘leading man’ to play the role.”

In the same interview, he has also mentioned his plans for something new, “I’m already thinking about my next film, and I have cracked an interesting idea. I’m quite excited about it, and have already started the research for that project.”

Well, with the multi-platform release on the way, we hope Sookshmadarshini gets all the recognition it deserves!
